It marked the top of the Lefan Imperium's Systematic Naval Project which intended to create ship classes with interchangeable parts so Lefan Imperial Arms could manufacture them with relative ease. Ships of this class received extensive upgrades after 12 ABY to keep up with newer designs. It was somewhat balanced between durability and firepower, with heavy nebular cannons located throughout the hull, protected by powerful shields and a tough rhenium-iridium-osmium armor which was capable of deflecting even light turbolaser projectiles. Although it only carried a moderate number of fighters and bombers, the fighter facilities and hangars were top-notch so fighter launch and landing was quick and even repair was possible. One Kaston-class battleship analog could face a much larger Lucrehulk-class battleship.
