The Debrune were an ancient offshoot of the Romulans. In the 4th century, the Debrune had an outpost on the planet Barradas III. (TNG: "Gambit, Part I" ) This species was only mentioned in dialogue. It is possible that the planets of Dessica II, Calder II, Yadalla Prime, and Draken IV were also associated with the Debrune or other early Romulans. In "Star Trek: Countdown", the non-canon comic book prequel to Star Trek, the teral'n, the staff wielded by Nero, is stated to be a Debrune artifact.

Planets such as Barradas III and Calder II were two such planets settled by the Debrune. (Last Unicorn RPG module: The Way of D'era: The Romulan Star Empire) During the early exodus of the Debrune, a splinter fleet led by Vice-Admiral Torek entered the Rigel system where they went into orbit around Rigel V. Torek and his Vulcan forces later subjugated that planet and made it their homeworld which led to the formation of the Rigelian civilization on that world. (Decipher RPG module: Worlds) Under the command of Captain Demora Sulu, the crew of the USS Enterprise-B spent two years charting the Debrune ruins in the Barradas system. This mission took place after the Tomed Incident. (ST reference: USS Enterprise Owners' Workshop Manual)
