| - Oremin is built upon control of information. To the shadow organization, data is just as precious as credits. Usually the agents of Oremin can find out what they need to know without alerting anyone to their presence. However, on occasion, it is sometimes necessary for people with high level information to "disappear" so that they can be questioned. In order to achieve the desired information in a timely matter, Oremin employs a hybrid substance that is equal parts truth serum and pain amplifier. Originally designed by Reng Kasr shortly before his court-martial, the substance has been dubbed "True Pain" by the interrogators who employ it. True Pain is a clear blue liquid that must be injected into a subject’s blood stream. From there the liquid quickly circulates through the body and can remain effective for as long as an hour depending on the dose. While it is not as strong as a dedicated truth serum, the addition of a pain amplifier makes it just as effective if used correctly. Kasr, while normally a patient man, found that waiting for a truth serum to take effect was an exercise in lost time. He wanted something that could crack even the most stubborn individuals in a matter of minutes. The method he came up with was to attack his victim on two fronts, the body and the mind. True Pain works on the principle that pain has a very real effect on the mind’s ability to concentrate. There have been known cases of subjects successfully resisting truth serums, especially if they know that they have been infected by one. The addition of constant and blinding pain is meant to distract the mind and allow the truth serum to work unimpeded. While True Pain has never been tested on Force-users, quite possibly the hardest of any prisoner to interrogate, it is believed that it could be one of the more effective drugs to use on them. The pain amplifier actually keeps the body from going into shock, so the interrogator can keep his subjects conscious the entire time. Special care must be taken when using True Pain as it is possible to kill the subject through sheer pain if their vital signs are not properly watched. Because of this, special interrogator droids have been modified to carefully keep their victims right on the edge of death, supplying the maximum amount of pain without killing them. The most common practice is to have the interrogator droids deliver electric shocks as the voltage can be controlled and the current is quite painful without being overly harmful. So far, True Pain has proven to be quite effective in extracting information from prisoners. Although truly stubborn individuals can take longer than Kasr’s desired time frame, the interrogative drug has yet to fail Oremin.
