This chapter also features the appearance of a new character, Tsukada Satoshi, the Minister of Health and Welfare. It was later revealed Rena's sudden severe mental illness outbreak was caused by an attempted rape by the three male students - those who were her only friends at the time - who were injured by Rena's acts of self-defense; never pressing charges due to fear of finding out about the attempted sexual assault. Near the end of the arc, Nagisa somehow found something (possibly involved with Tokyo's plan on their upcoming Great Hinamizawa Disaster) that she went to warn Tomoe and Rena, but was later knocked unconscious and was kidnapped by a mysterious stranger. Nagisa was able to to regain unconscious and that she's in a car and saw the identity of her kidnapper. After a few struggles, she escaped, but was killed at the process by being ran over by a truck. Now, Tomoe must find the identity of Nagisa's kidnapper and prevent the upcoming crisis, which continues on to Miotsukushi-hen.
