Generation 2 is the fan-designated name for the second, newly-designed line of G.I. Joe figures that followed the success of Hasbro's The Real American Hero Collection. In 2002, following the success of both Hasbro's The Real American Hero Collection and the new G.I. Joe comic book by Image/Devil's Due Publishing, G.I. Joe returned to toy aisles nationwide in G.I. Joe vs. Cobra. It is also the first part in the unofficial G.I. Joe vs. Cobra trilogy. A continuation of the A Real American Hero continuity from the 1980's and 1990's, the G.I. Joe vs. Cobra toyline featured both new molds and redecos of older molds. The Devil's Due comic series, while not specifically written around the toy series, did eventually feature several of the line's new characters and revamped character appearances. L

The Devil's Due comic series, while not specifically written around the toy series, did eventually feature several of the line's new characters and revamped character appearances. Later waves of the series were re-themed around a single storyline and retitled, and were accompanied by a direct-to-video animated movie, both set in a continuity separate from previous animated series. The three segments of the Generation 2 line were:
* G.I. Joe vs. Cobra
* G.I. Joe vs. Cobra: Spy Troops
* G.I. Joe: Valor vs. Venom
