Brisingr is the third book of the Inheritance series by Christopher Paolini. The first two books were Eragon and Eldest. Brisingr is due to be released September 20, 2008. The Inheritance Cycle was originally supposed to be a trilogy but on October 30, 2007 Paolini announced that since Brisingr turned out to be bigger than he expected he would split the book in two so the Trilogy became a Cycle. Paolini announced that Brisingr would be longer than both Eragon and Eldest. The title of the book, Brisingr, means fire in the ancient-language and is the first word that Eragon learns from this language. The cover of the book is the dragon Glaedr. The art was done by John Jude Palencar.

  • Brisingr is the third book by Christopher Paolini, and the sixth best yet.
  • Brisingr is third Eragon book. When you hold a stick and shout BRISINGR! the stick will go into flames. Only Squirtle can quench these flames. NOBODY MAKES FUN OF ERAGON BUT ME! -"Wha? Glaedr died?" "Eragon, I'm dead too." "Screw you oromis. Glaedr is DEAD!" -Eragon discussing the death of Glaedr.
  • "Oaths sworn... loyalties tested... forces collide." After the collosal battle on the burning plains against the Empire's warriors, Eragon and his dragon, Sapphira, have narrowly escaped with their lives. Still, there is more at hand with the rider and his dragon as Eragon finds himself caught in a web of promises that he might not be able to keep. Eragon is the greatest hope to rid the land of tyranny, can this one simple farm-boy unite the rebel forces and defeat the king?
  • Brisingr was the object of "fire" in the Ancient Language (see also, Istalrí). The word is used by a magician for casting fire. Brisingr was used by Brom to light a fire when the tinder box would not work. It was also the first spell Eragon cast, although he originally thought it was a swear word that Brom used. He used it to kill two Urgals in Yazuac: the subsequent loss of energy almost knocked him unconscious.

First is Eragon's oath to his cousin Roran: to help rescue his beloved, Katerina, from King Galbitorix's clutches. But Eragon owes his loyalty to others too. The Varden are in desperate need of his talents, as are the elves and dwarves. When unrest claims the rebels Eragon must make choices, choices that lead to the Empire and beyond, choices that may lead to an unimaginable sacrifice. Eragon is the greatest hope to rid the land of tyranny, can this one simple farm-boy unite the rebel forces and defeat the king?

He used it to kill two Urgals in Yazuac: the subsequent loss of energy almost knocked him unconscious. Brom told Eragon that it is "not only a name for fire, it is the name for fire." Although, this is a very effective spell, it requires much energy to cast when one is not well acquainted with magic. It can be used in many different ways - lighting a lamp, as a weapon (e.g. a fireball), or as light itself (e.g. a werelight). It may even be used for cooking, as mentioned in Eldest.
