The Muir Corporation also made use of the design starting from 14 ABY. In 17 ABY, the Confederate version was updated with antimatter reactors and a BioComp, while the Muir began their own reworking of the design in the same year, unrelated to the Confederacy's update of the design. The Imperator Carrier carried nearly four starfighter wings (144 fighters) and it augmented the overall starfighter strength of whatever fleet it was attached to. These ships provided a hyperspace platform for star fighters, thus giving the starfighters a method for quick travel via light speed. Imperators did not generally involve themselves directly in combat. They were armed, but they were not considered offensive weapons and their whole function was to launch starfighter support at a distance. In combat, these ships preferred to stay as far away from the battle as possible, serving as a refuelling and supply point for the fighters it carried. Also each Imperator had limited field repair facilities. The cavernous bays held the fighter wings which it carried, while additional smaller bays held the support craft. It was standard practice to have at least one Interceptor Squadron in the mix of starfighters carried.
