  • The Jedi Gunfighter was a mode of service and minor prestige class available to Jedi Guardians and Jedi Weapon Masters who had demonstrated proficiency in conventional ranged weapons, including blaster pistols, carbines, rifles, and heavy weapons. While most Jedi Guardians preferred to focus their combat training on the lightsaber and similar melee weapons, Jedi Gunfighters preferred to meet their enemies at a distance, employing the Force as a shield while attacking with energy discharge firearms. As many Jedi looked down upon such weapons as "clumsy and random" and not of the same caliber as lightsabers, the class eventually fell out of favor, and disappeared entirely by the Great Galactic War. Gunfighters frequently eschewed the traditional robes of the Jedi Order in favor of light fiber armors that offered more protection from attacks. Without a lightsaber's deflective abilities, used to defend against blaster-armed opponents, Gunfighters embraced a variety of flexible yet durable armors, including the Cinnagar weave armor and the Echani light armor, both of which were increasingly popular with Gunfighters during the Jedi Civil War. While some Gunfighters focused their studies on two-handed weapons, including blaster rifles and carbines, most Gunfighters during the Mandalorian Wars and Jedi Civil War preferred to dual-wield matched blaster pistols, and many surplus Mandalorian weapons, including the infamous Mandalorian heavy blaster, found their way into Gunfighter hands and gained a cult following in Gunfighter circles. Like the Ysanna people of Ossus, the Gunfighters utilized their connection to the Force to guide their weapons' bullets or blaster bolts to their intended targets. For this reason, experienced Gunfighters with a deep-seated connection to the Living Force were, by extension, expert marksmen, easily able to take down multiple armored opponents with unnatural accuracy and speed. During the Mandalorian Wars, the Gunfighters who joined the Revanchist cause, though few in number, were feared by their opponents for their ability to neutralize overwhelming numbers of enemies at a distance with little to no error. The Jedi Apostate, Suri Sunrunner, mentioned to the Sith Lord Karros that she had hoped to become a Jedi Gunfighter prior to being selected for service in the ranks of the Jedi Consulars.
