  • Swango was born in Tacoma Washington to John, and Muriel Swango. John was a vietnam vet who suffered from Alchohalism, and depression that lead to a devorce. Thus Swango was primarily raised by his mother. Michael Swango was valedictorian of his 1972 Quincy Catholic Boys High School class. During high school he played clarinet, and was a member of the Quincy Notre Dame band. He served in the United States Marine Corps, and was honorably discharged in 1976. He saw no action during his time in service, however his training left him commited to physical exercise. After the Marine Corps Swango attended Quincy College, and was awarded the American Chemical Society Award. He then attended medical school at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. As SIU Swango preferred to work as an ambulance attendant rather then concentrate on doctorial studies. He was noted as having a fascination with dying patients, and though many of his patients ended up coding, or suffering life-threatening emergencies, with at least five of them dying, little was thought of it, for he was a medical student, and students make mistakes. His lack of study caught up with him, and it was found that he had faked checkups during his OB/GYN rotation. His attempt to cheat his way into the medical profession got him nearly expelled, but a vote was held by a committee that gave him a second chance. A year after his classmates, Swago graduated with an M.D. and sucessfully completed several assignments essential to the medical profession. His evaluation however remained poor, yet managed to land him an internship at Ohio State University Medical Center (now The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center) where he was to work with a resident neurosurgoen. At this time, nurses brought concern over the number of patients dying under his care with mysterious fregency only to be accused of paranoia. -incomplete-
