Ruston, Proctor and Company was established in Lincoln in 1857, and were manufactures of steam tractors and engines. They later became Ruston & Hornsby & then Ruston (engines), following the split of the Excavator division to merge with Bucyrus-Erie from America to form the Ruston-Bucyrus Company in 1930.
