Skidegate Village was a Haida village outside Skidegate proper. There, the natives lived in their traditional lifestyle. The buildings were mostly Haida longhouses built with red cedar and roofed with cedar bark. The roof was always supported by seven longitudinal cedar beams and had a central vent hole for the cooking / heating fire. In front of each longhouse was a totem pole.
