Equality Day refers to June 24 1987 when the Arab community of Israel conducted a nation wide strike in an attempt to end racial discrimination against the then 700,000 Arab citizens of Israel. The strike's main demand was that the Ministry of Interior allocate funds to all communities (Arab or Jewish) on a per capita basis. The second demand was the termination of preferential hiring of Jews.
