There is a small chance it may spawn a chronicle while donating memories to an energy rift, which will spawn a chronicle floating near the player with the text "Your fading memory causes a chronicle fragment/an elder chronicle to escape from the rift!". If attempting to activate another fading memory, while having an active one already, it will not be allowed, prompting the message: "You already have an active fading memory", or if the activate memory is in the bank: "You have an active fading memory in your bank." Fading memories also increase the duration of enriched springs when the one using the memories activates the spring. Springs that have been clicked on when a charge is used will have a white base instead of a blue base. Springs with white bases will have increased duration compared to those that have blue bases (this effect is for everyone not just the wearer). It is possible to unequip the fading memory once the spring has been activated. This allows the user to benefit from the extended spring without using the item's charges. When using a light creature familiar, fading memories will not increase the base experience received when converting the memories with the familiar.
