When Algarvian dragons landed troops in the mountain passes and cut off Jelgava's army from its homeland, Talsu managed to escape back into Jelgava with a small group of his fellow soldiers. Thoroughly disgusted with their nobles' brutality and incompetence, the small band simply deserted and despite encountering several Algarvian soldiers Talsu and his comrades were left alone.
