| - The The United Kingdom of Suriname (Dutch: Het Verenigd Koninkrijk van Suriname), known simply as just Suriname (or Surinam) is a country consisting of the formerly Dutch colony of Guyana on the northeastern Atlantic coast of South America and the Dutch Antilles, a collection of islands in the Caribbean Sea. The nation of Suriname was born from the former Dutch colonies in the Americas at the time of the Yellowstone Eruption, including the Dutch colony of Suriname and the Netherlands Antilles, and came to be the true successor to the nation of the Netherlands. Following the increasingly colder climate that overcame northern Europe and the Kingdom of the Netherland's defeat and annexation by Germany during the Great European War many Dutch citizens fled to Suriname, as did the Dutch royal family following the kingdom's collapse. Today the nation of Suriname is a unitary parliamentary representative democracy under constitutional monarchy, ruled by a monarch from the Dutch royal family, who serves as head of state. Legislative power is vested in the States-General, consisting of the Senate and House of Representatives. The nation of Suriname has an area of 164, 820 km2, and a population of mostly Dutch, East Indian, Creole/Afro-Surinamese, and Javanese citizens.
