Wikipedia is the 4th most visited site in the world, so they must be doing something right. Also, the nature of a question and answer site is vastly different than Wikipedia. Comparing the two is like comparing Encyclopedia Brittanica with "Ask Abby" in a newspaper. One is serious and more "formal" and the other is lighter and less formal. Both want to give accurate and complete information, but one is long articles and the other is shorter answers to questions that people want to be answered. Besides, I don't think Wikipedia is boring or sterile.
