In 1961 International developed a new truck diesel from one of its farm tractor engines. The D-301 was an enlargement of the D-282 that had been in use in tractors and construction equipment since 1958. The 112-hp D-301 was optional in the B-160, B-162, and B-164 and some were also installed in school buses. The D-301 was not recommended for tractor-trailer duty.
