Lieutenant General Sven-Olof Olson, born in Oskarshamn November 26, 1926, was the former Commander of the Swedish Air Force. He was trained as a fighter pilot. In 1951 he received the newspaper Stockholmstidningen gold medal after having saved a J 30 Mosquito fighter aircraft from a serious situation. This helped to explain previous accidents and prevent new ones. Later he became head of the Air Force Academy F 20 and Upplands Fighter Wing, F 16, both in the city of Uppsala. He was also for a time head of the attack air wings with it staff in Gothenburg. In 1980-1982 he was the military commander of the Southern Military District (Kristianstad) in Sweden. He was appointed Commander of the Swedish Air Force on October 1, 1982 and left the command on September 30, 1988.
