About: Skull (status)   Sponge Permalink

An Entity of Type : owl:Thing, within Data Space : 134.155.108.49:8890 associated with source dataset(s)

The skull is caused by initiating combat with another player or their familiar in the Wilderness, by entering the Abyss, by looting from a Wilderness Warband camp, or by asking Mr Ex in Edgeville. Upon leaving the location that caused the skull effect, a timer starts after which the effect will be removed. This timer is 10 minutes for looting a Warband camp or entering the Abyss, and 20 minutes for initiating combat with another player. Retaliating in the Wilderness does not result in a skull. If a player dies while Skulled (and outside of a safe minigame), they will lose all of the items they are carrying as opposed to keeping the three most valuable; they will also become un-skulled. Skulled players will still leave a gravestone with all of their items if they die in an area where graves

  • Players who are attacked by another player in the Wilderness can safely retaliate without getting skulled themselves. However, innocent players entering the Wilderness should be careful for "skull trickers". Skull trickers will attempt to skull you through exploiting in-game mechanics, since most players entering the Wilderness are usually there to kill monsters or collect resources.
  • The white skull is a feature that appears when a player: * (or familiar) attacks another player or their familiar (in the Wilderness) * loots from a Wilderness Warbands camp * enters the Abyss without having a Forinthry brace equipped * asking Mr Ex in Edgeville to skull the player. * wielding an augmented item with the committed perk added Cannons will also skull the owner if a cannonball hits another player's familiar. Contrary to popular belief, if you are attacked by another player, you can attack that player back without getting skulled.

Note: In multi-way areas, you can unintentionally skull yourself with AoE attacks (e.g burst/barrage spells, chinchompas) if you use it against the aggressor and there are other players that haven't attacked you first next or on them. The "skull" will disappear automatically after 10/20 minutes depending on how the player got it; it disappears after 10 minutes after using the Abyss, and 20 after attacking a player. If you re-enter the Abyss or attack another player that has not attacked you yet, the skull timer will reset. If a player needs to quickly remove their skull, they can either go to monster(s) which will kill them very quickly (such as the Corporeal Beast) or a player can enter the free-for-all portal at Clan Wars and then leave.
  • The skull is caused by initiating combat with another player or their familiar in the Wilderness, by entering the Abyss, by looting from a Wilderness Warband camp, or by asking Mr Ex in Edgeville. Skulled players will still leave a gravestone with all of their items if they die in an area where gravestones would normally dropped. Assuming a player is not in a high-risk wilderness world, they can still protect their most expensive item using the protect item prayer/curse. Additionally, a player can prevent themselves from being skulled when entering the Abyss through the use of a Forinthry brace.
As soon as one of the following methods above occurs, the skull will appear above their character. If a player dies with a skull in the Wilderness (and dungeons linked to the Wilderness, excluding the King Black Dragon's lair), they will drop all of their items upon death, unless a Protect Item mechanic is used (the prayer itself, or consuming a Fury shark), in which they keep their most valuable item with them. If a skulled player dies outside the Wilderness, gravestones will appear instead if they are allowed. Contrary to popular belief, if you are attacked by another player, you can attack that player back without getting skulled. Upon leaving the area where the skulled status appeared, a timer of 10 (or 20 if you attacked another player/familiar) minutes (of in-game time) will count down; once this timer expires, the skull is removed from the player. Players can remove skulls immediately by dying to monsters, in safe minigames or the Flame pit in a player's player-owned house.
