Peasant Levies were drawn by most military commanders when an army was understrength and there were no able bodies to recruit. They were the bottom of the military food chain, commonly men ill-or non-skilled in combat, who have been given peasant weapons. Such levied units were untrained and lacked the discipline of experienced combatants, but could still be counted on to perform basic holding actions and support of other troops.
