Walter Butler (born 30th October 1927 in Glasgow, died 12th October 2003 in Lendalfoot, Ayrshire) worked on Coronation Street directing 36 episodes between February 1965 and January 1967 as well as all twelve episodes of the first season of the spin-off Pardon The Expression. In addition, he produced the Coronation Street segment for The Royal Gala in December 1966 which was performed in front of Prince Philip. Born the son of a revue and variety comedian from Birmingham and a dancer, he appeared in his parents' comic sketches and trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow. He worked as a pianist for Andy Stewart and then produced The One O’Clock Gang for Scottish Television prior to his move to Manchester. After leaving Granada, he lectured in drama at the Manchester Polytechnic.
