Seriously, I don't like the idea. -- 17:15, 17 December 2008 (PST) Reason being...? -- 17:17, 17 December 2008 (PST) I really liked the Lostpedia to be independent and not a sub page of any host like Wikia is. Well, I see the point, that all the webspace Lostpedia needs might be to big to handle them any more on someone's own, but I like the Lostpedia just the way it is...^^ -- 17:28, 17 December 2008 (PST) I honestly wouldn't worry DerAndre, nothing essentially changes. I'm currently working on making a new look skin for LP on Wikia too. We aren't really moving far, we're all still here! 17:40, 17 December 2008 (PST) Will we move this thursday, tomorrow? -- 17:42, 17 December 2008 (PST) I'm a little confused -- what's going on exactly? What will change due to this move to Wikia? -

What will change due to this move to Wikia? -- 17:46, 17 December 2008 (PST) "Nothing" ;) What I am really looking forward is the WYSIWYG editor -- 17:51, 17 December 2008 (PST) I've used it before, and it is, to me, overrated. It'll be easier to change some code, but to format other code is just not fun at all with the editor. But it's turn-offable, so it should be okay. -- 18:01, 17 December 2008 (PST) The new editor is totally optional. Experienced editors often find it easier to use wikitext, but the new editor is proving to be beneficial for new users who haven't yet learnt MediaWiki's markup. Angela 18:03, 17 December 2008 (PST) The new main page is looks pretty good, it's just Wikipedia now. It takes a little longer to load right now but I'm sure that will get worked on. It'll be faster and the resources from the wikia will be nice for a fast fix when we need it. I don't like the little pictures they use however, I hope there's some way we can bypass them with little Lost pictures. It seems we'll all still have the same everything it's just getting updated to a better system.-- 18:00, 17 December 2008 (PST) Hi. The demo site is not as fast as the live site will be, so you should see improvements on that tomorrow. The default URL will be lostpedia.wikia.com, but the old URLs will redirect so that no links will break. Angela 18:03, 17 December 2008 (PST) So we'll still be able to access the site through lostpedia.com, right? -- 18:05, 17 December 2008 (PST) Yes, All existing links will either work or be redirected to the appropriate place. --Admin 18:09, 17 December 2008 (PST) DerAndre, our apologies, we didn't get around to notifying all of the various language Lostpedias before the move, it happened a bit faster than we thought it would. The English LP sysops themselves had only a short time to confer, but we were unanimous on the benefits as well as the implementation of the migration. -- 06:49, 19 December 2008 (UTC) What's with the format of the main page on the wikia test site for Lostpedia? It does not look good currently, because the page is sprawled out so you have to scroll to see the entire page. Is this just temporary? -- 18:10, 17 December 2008 (PST) Hi CTS. Don't worry - this will be fixed. Which browser are you using? I'm aware of a problem when using Google Chrome which TOR will work on in the morning (Europe time). Angela 18:12, 17 December 2008 (PST) * I just use Internet Explorer. -- 18:25, 17 December 2008 (PST) The Chrome problem has been corrected. --Admin 22:02, 17 December 2008 (PST) Will the left sidebar be as large as it is on the demo? Because that crushes the page a lot. -- 18:13, 17 December 2008 (PST) If you choose to use the new monaco skin, it will be that wide, but don't forget that the usual MediaWiki skins are available, and the lostbook skin will be available which will look just like this wiki (that's not live on the demo site yet). We'll also be developing a mixture of the two, so that you'll be able to have something that looks like lostbook but has the functionality of monaco. Angela 18:16, 17 December 2008 (PST) Fantastic. I've settled for the modern skin now, but as soon as the Lostbook becomes available, I'll use that. Thanks for your help, and sorry to be such a hassle. -- 04:35, 19 December 2008 (UTC) We have customised the Monaco skin now to be more Lost-ish --Plkrtn 11:36, 19 December 2008 (UTC) My main concern about this change is that it will come as a surprise to many people, and they will react negatively to this sudden change. While I do perfer the older version better than this, I think it is because I need time to become accustomed to this new format. --1LostFan 05:24, 19 December 2008 (UTC) Wait, just found a problem. Why isn't my sig showing up?--1LostFan 05:26, 19 December 2008 (UTC) There's not one currently in your preferences. I'll mention it to Tor when he wakes up - it's possible this part of the move hasn't been completed yet. Has anyone else noticed any missing preferences? Angela (talk) 06:39, 19 December 2008 (UTC) Just missing signatures so far. But I'll let TOR know if I come across anything else. --Plkrtn 11:36, 19 December 2008 (UTC) I've been a contributor both to Wikia wikis and Media wiki ones, and I have to admit that one of my favorite things about Lostpedia has been that it wasn't on Wikia. (And no - I'm not exaggerating) The Wikia layout absolutely suck, and it much less user-friendly. Just one example: I'm using a widescreen, resulting in the wikia banner and the Lostpedia Island panorama banner covering more than 1/3 of the screen - all the time! I havn't been contributed that much on Lostpedia earlier, and this move really doesn't encourage me to participate more. A misguided choice by the Lostpedia admins. Hopefully it won't show that much in the user contributions though... --Pierre 13:54, 19 December 2008 (UTC) I'm sure that User:Plkrtn can explain his reasons for making the custom monaco skin have that island panorama. Also keep in mind, that your free to use any other skin you want. Even monobook, and soon, the old Lostbook from the old site. --Uberfuzzy 14:06, 19 December 2008 (UTC) Hmm... You're right... The only thing is that it changes all my Wikia acounts.... Well well... I'm a little less grumpy now ;) --Pierre 14:15, 19 December 2008 (UTC) As long as the old Lostpedia skin is restored (right now I see just plane wikia skin) I find it acceptable. I still believe having a separate domain was one of Lostpedia's best features, which allowed to have more room for username space (my favorite nickname is already taken on wikia) as well as staying separate from lost.wikia.com. Mauser 20:31, 19 December 2008 (UTC) We will get the lostbook skin added as soon as the imports for the non-english wikis are finished. Angela (talk) 01:19, 20 December 2008 (UTC) Going back to my problem with my sig I mentioned above; I think I might know the problem. I already have an account with Wikia on the other Lost site, where I do not have a custom made sig. I'm wondering if already having an account could affect why my sig won’t appear automatically. For the time being, I have found a way to get my sig, which is manually typing User:1LostFan/Sig and five ~ for the time to appear. Plkrtn, are you still having problems with your sig? If so, have you already have an account on a different site before the switch? -- 05:08, 20 December 2008 (UTC) I think it's taken your (blank) sig from your original Wikia preferences then. You can easily add one back at preferences. See Help:Signature. Angela (talk) 05:38, 20 December 2008 (UTC) Besides the obvious disadvantages (more ads, inappropriate ads, confusion regarding Lostpedia vs. Lost Wiki, hideaous layout, changed user-names, no chance for regular users to voice their thoughts on the matter prior to the move, trouble for foreign language Lostpedias, the fact that Lostpedia is no longer independent, et al.) I also can't look at individual edit changes. When clicking on "last" in the history of an article, I don't see the differences made from the earlier edit, but instead I get a request to open "index.php". Would it be possible to fix this. You really screwed up going through this transfer, guys. --Pierre 14:42, 20 December 2008 (UTC) Pierre, go here , find the check box for "Use external diff by default", and turn it off, thats whats causing your index.php issue. --Uberfuzzy 19:09, 20 December 2008 (UTC) thx!--Pierre 19:58, 20 December 2008 (UTC) I've managed to get my sig back. If anyone is having problem with their sig, this is what you do. Go to preferences, and go down to signature. Then type {{User:(your username)/autosig}}, and check Raw signature. Thank you for all your help Angela! -- 03:54, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
