Edward James "Eddie" Olmos (born February 24, 1947) is an actor and director. His most memorable roles are as Gaff in Blade Runner (with Brion James), Lt. Martin Castillo in Miami Vice, Jaime Escalante in Stand and Deliver (with Lou Diamond Phillips and Rosana DeSoto), the head of the Quintanilla family in the film Selena, and as Commander William Adama in the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica series.

He was born in East Los Angeles, California to a Southern Baptist Mexican immigrant with 1/4 Hungarian Jewish ancestry (the family name was originally Olmosh) and a Mexican-American Catholic mother. Olmos grew up wanting to be a professional baseball player. In his teen years, he turned to rock and roll, and for several years played various clubs in and around Los Angeles. He branched out into acting, appearing in many small productions, until he finally got his big break by portraying the narrator, called "El Pachuco", in the play Zoot Suit, which dramatized the World War II-era rioting in Southern California brought about by the tensions between Mexican-Americans and local police.   • Despite his best attempts to keep his identity a secret, it wasn't long before the US government learned of his identity. The CIA, NSA, ABC, FBI and NBC all made attempts on his life. This made Olmos even more angry, but seeing as he held the Spear of Longious, he believed himself invincible and later came to the conclusion that he was in fact God! This belief produced a large amount of hot air from the vicinity of his mouth, and this combined with a spicy bean diet caused internal combustion, which eliminated everyone within a mile of Olmos. This later become known as the Olmos Event, and every year a memorial fiesta is held in Mexico City to honour the dead from his fumes. However, this was not the end of Olmos.
