  • Palumbo was a lieutenant of Albert Marco who in 1927 in anticipation of Marco's eventual fall as king of the vice rackets began positioning himself and making moves to take over. Marco was eventually convicted and deported and Palumbo inherited Marco's gambling and liquor operations. His time as a big player in the rackets was short as in 1928, Palumbo was found slumped behind the wheel of his car shot to death. He was allegedly killed by Domenico Di Ciolla, a lieutenant of Rosario DeSimone, who was later acquitted of the murder charge. Palumbo was the seventh bootlegger killed in a six week period during that year, he was allegedly killed for refusing to merge his criminal operations with DeSimone's, who later became the Don of Los Angeles.
