High Explosive rockets are the most common type of aircraft-launched munition. Available from the very beginning of Crimson Skies, HE rockets are optimised for attacking slow-moving or armored targets such as ground installations and Battle Balloons. The small warhead, about 1 lb (2kg) of explosives, detonates, dealing damage over a small radius. HE rockets are ineffective against fighters, as they are unguided and have a very small splash radius. For anti-fighter rockets, consider flak. A single hardpoint carries three HE rockets.

HE rockets are effective, however, in anti-zeppelin operations, especially prior to the acquistion of aerial torpedoes. A single hardpoint carries three HE rockets. In Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, the HE rocket is replaced by the Brigand's concussion rocket.
