Beaconborn are infants of different races who were born when the unstable magic of the Beacon of Alent affected and accelerated the pregnancies of several women in Alent before the Catastrophe at the end of the Third Age. While the death cult of Totenkopfs stole all the Beaconborn they could get their hands on and sacrificed them to create the Gospel of Death, a few infants were spared from this fate and even fewer survived to adulthood in the Fourth Age. Due to the mass amnesia caused by the Anomaly to anyone in the vicinity of Alent before its fall, all knowledge of the Beaconborn is presumably lost to the world, and the surviving Beaconborn remain unaware of their troubling magical origins as well as whatever symptoms such exposure to magic might manifest in them.
