The Special Air Service Regiment, officially abbreviated SASR though commonly known as the SAS, is an elite special operations force of the Australian Army. While it is modelled on the British SAS (operating under the same motto, “Who Dares Wins”) the regiment is a direct command unit of the Australian Special Operations Command. It draws on the experiences of the World War II Australian Services Reconnaissance Department and Australian commandos, such as "Z Force", and is based at Campbell Barracks, in Swanbourne, a suburb of Perth, Western Australia.
