Upon receipt of the shuttle, Quark took advantage of his nephew's admission to Starfleet Academy to smuggle illegal kemocite, using the excuse of transporting Nog to Earth as a cover to deliver the contraband to Orion. During the trip, however, Rom discovered that Gaila, who harbored a dislike of Quark, had sabotaged the shuttle's command sequencer, causing the shuttle to accelerate uncontrollably while in warp. Rom, however, came up with a plan to vent plasma from the shuttle's warp core into the cargo hold, where it started a cascade reaction in the kemocite. • Upon receipt of the shuttle, Quark took advantage of his nephew's admission to Starfleet Academy to smuggle illegal kemocite, using the excuse of transporting Nog to Earth as a cover to deliver the contraband to Orion. He then modulated the reaction to create an inversion wave in the warp field, forcing the ship back into normal space. Although the plan was successful, it also had the unexpected side effect of creating a time warp which transported the shuttle back in time to the year 1947. Upon crash-landing in the town of Roswell, New Mexico, Quark, Rom, and Nog were taken into custody by the United States Army Air Forces, and their ship was stored in Hangar 18 on a military base. While on the base, the three Ferengi were interrogated by the Army, who suspected them of being part of an alien invasion force. While this was occurring, Odo, who had stowed away on the shuttle in an attempt to catch Quark smuggling the kemocite, conducted covert repairs on the shuttle in an effort to make it space-worthy again. Quark, Rom, and Nog were eventually able to escape with the assistance of two helpful Humans and retrieve their ship. Rom was then able to harness the beta radiation from an atomic explosion and expose the remaining kemocite to it, triggering a temporal surge in the subspace continuum and recreating the time warp, which returned the shuttle and its inhabitants to their proper place and time. Upon the shuttle's return to the 24th century, it was deemed a total loss, and Quark was forced to sell it for salvage in order to book passage back to Deep Space 9. (DS9: "Little Green Men")
  • Shortly after receiving the shuttle, Quark took Rom and Nog to Earth so that Nog could begin attending classes at Starfleet Academy. He also intended to take a side trip to Orion to sell a load of kemocite that he had found on his ship. Odo had snuck on board the shuttle and used his shapeshifting abilities to hide on the shuttle - intending to capture Quark in the act of kemocite smuggling. When they reached Earth it was realized that Gaila had sabotaged the shuttle's warp drive so that the drive could not be shut down, nor could the warp core be ejected. Rom forced the ship out of warp by exposing the kemocite in the shuttle to warp plasma, which was successful. However it threw them into a time warp which sent them back to 1947, and they crashed near Roswell, New Mexico. The Ferengi were taken into custody by the United States Army, and Quark's Treasure was subjected to detailed examinations. After escaping custody, Rom was able to use the remainder of the kemocite to recreate the accident, and bring them back to the 24th century. Afterwards, Quark's Treasure had to be sold for salvage as she was a total loss. With the proceeds, Quark, Rom, and Odo were able to buy passage back to Deep Space 9. (DS9 episode: "Little Green Men") In the years following the crash of Quark's Treasure in the desert, a top secret research program was undertaken to decipher the technology found on the ship. This in part led to the development of space vessels such as the DY-100. (TOS novel: The Rise and Fall of Khan Noonien Singh, Volume 1) The incident also spurred a secret organisation that defended Earth against alien threats into existence, and centuries later the organisation still had copies of schematics of the shuttle from the incident in their possession. (TNG comic: "An Inconvenient Truth") Gaila later claimed he had nothing to do with the sabotage of Quark's Treasure. (DS9 novel: Demons of Air and Darkness)
