| - Conservatism is the idea that tradition and precedence are better guides to human behaviour and problem-solving instead of innovation and change.
- Conservatism describes a collection of related political ideologies, political movements and social philosophies that rhetorically oppose political, economic or social change. However, whether they actually oppose or embrace such change, as a practical matter they seek to reinforce existing hierachies or power with which they are familiar and beholden or with which the hope to curry favor. Contemporary conservatism lies along a range between the center-right to the far right on the Left-Right Ideological Spectrum. For some observers, conservatism represents nothing more than opportunistic appeals to populist ignorance evident in logical inconsistency and hypocrisy. In addtion to ignorance, conservatives also frequiently appeal to hate and greed. Conservatives often exhibit acute moral blindness when it comes to their own social privilege, suffer from failures of imagination in understanding the thinking of people who are different from themselves or of societies unlike their own, and are apt to engage in apologetics when the wrongdoing of conservative leaders is exposed.
