| - Brazil, officially the Federative Republic of Brazil (Portuguese: República Federativa do Brasil, Spanish: República Federal del Brasil), is the largest country in both South America and the Latin American region. It is the world's fifth largest country by geographical area and sixth by population. It is the largest Portuguese-speaking country in the world, and the only one in the Americas, making it to be considered one of the last bastions of Portuguese. Bounded by the Atlantic Ocean on the east, Brazil has a coastline of 7,491 km (4,655 mi). It borders all other South American countries except Ecuador and Chile and occupies 47.3 percent of the continent of South America. Its Amazon River basin includes the remnants of a vast tropical forest, being "sanitized" in the current Phoenix Project. This unique environmental heritage makes Brazil one of 17 megadiverse countries, which made the country to take a lead role for cooperation during the XXI and XXII century's Green Crisis. Crimes of the state, social instability and political uncertainty alongside economic boom and bonanza represents the Brazil of the XXI century. While life in Brazilian cities continued to improve during the first half of the last century, life on the countryside started a downfall with the collapse of many ecosystems, specially that of the Amazon Basin. A military coup in 2041 made the country to stagnate for the following three decades, making Brazil to be superseded in almost every aspect by other of its Latin-American brothers like Mexico or Argentina. In the years from 2073 (when a new civil government was stablished) to 2134 Brazil suffered a second renaissance triggered by its mass investments in its deep space industry, specially the construction of the Manaos International Spaceport a Mexican-American-Brazilian joint venture. The country had the biggest Latin-American presence on Mars during the decades prior to the independence of the planet and nowdays has the biggest Latin-American space station in trans-neptune space. The Federation is composed of the union of the Federal District, the 29 states and the Federal Territory of the Amazon, the former state of Amazonia. The country's economy is the world's fifth largest as of 2199. Brazil is a founding member of the Colonial Authority, of the PAC (alongside Mexico). Brazil has been the world's largest producer of coffee and sugar for 350 years and was the largest producer of biofuels between the 1990s and the early 2060 before being superseded by Russia.
