  • Martin Willison was the Green Party candidate in the riding of Halifax West, Nova Scotia, during the Canadian Federal elections on June 28, 2004. He lost to Liberal Geoff Regan, receiving 1,456 votes (3.6%). Willison is employed at Dalhousie University as a professor of biology and environmental studies. He has been a long-time environmental advocate, having won several national and international awards for his work in marine conservation, such as the 2004 Don McAllister Medal and the silver medal in the Conservation category of the Canadian Environment Awards. He was the Advocate for Oceans and Fisheries in the Green Party of Canada in 2004, but resigned from that post shortly after the election. His wife is an author and gardening commentator, Marjorie Willison. In 2006, he was elected to the executive of the newly formed Green Party of Nova Scotia as one of two co-presidents of the party.
