Border Station Charlie is an international border station located along the Bering Strait and has the job of guarding the entrance to the Bering Strait Tunnel. Border Station Charlie was built in 1997, which was the same year the Bering Strait Tunnel was opened to the public on both the American and Siberian sides of the tunnel. Border Station Charlie is also the location of one of the early warning systems radar centers, which detects incoming nuclear missiles coming across Antarctica and the Pacific toward the United States.
