- The Martian Manhunter is a superhero from DC comics and a regular member of the Justice League - he is one of the last surviving Martians and has taken on the role as a hero on earth due to his affinity for the planet, disguising himself as a human due to knowing that humans will fear his alien appearance. He is one of the most powerful heroes in the Justice League and has displayed a vast array of powers such as shape-shifting, superhuman strength, telepathy and flight.

- Like the Platypus, Martians are mammals but lay eggs. Mars and Krypton may be light years apart but both can see through walls and have a fatal weakness, in the Kryptonians case, rare meteors from the destruction of their homeworld, and in the Martians, an angry protestor with a lighter and an alcohol soaked rag in a bottle. Like an earth ghost, the Martians can fly through solid walls, they can also turn into animals, but not a car as Plastic Man can, and if Martian Manhunter turns into a squid unlike Beast Boy it won't have any ink. Martians also noticeably can't turn into a bucket of water, making Metamorpho and the Wonder Twins the ones the Star City fire department keep on speed dial.

- Centuries ago on the planet Ma'aleca'andra, the Green Martians known as M'yrnn and Sha'sheen gave birth to twin sons. The bearing of twins was uncommon among the Martian culture, and as such, the first of the twins was named J'onn J'onzz, whose name means "Light to the Light." J'onn's brother however, was born a mutant, bereft of a Martian's innate ability to communicate telepathically. He was named Ma'alefa'ak, whose named means "Darkness in the Heart." As an adult, J'onn became a Manhunter (police officer) and married a Martian woman named M'yri'ah. J'onn was not the last Martian race; Moreover, he had a rivalry with General Blanx, a Martian who was responsible for destroying the atmosphere of Mars. The Martians were able to build a colony called New Mars.For some years, J'onn was out of the earth, in this colony. He only participated in the League in its first year, and joined again, as a leader, a weak incarnation of the group, just before the crisis.

The film is based off the popular DC comics superhero of the same name and is slated for theatrical release on November 12th, 2013. Filming is set for Vancouver, Manhattan, Los Angeles and Wyoming.
