Often characters will be confronted by babbling foreigners speaking totally incomprehensible languages. If they do not speak the foreigner's language, they may try to make out the gist of what is being said by listening very carefully, encouraging the foreigner to speak slowly and use gestures, and being very patient. If a test is failed by 40% or more, the GM may introduce confusion and misunderstanding. Did the foreigner really say to get knotted or was he simply pointing out that your shoelace is undone?
