Colorado voters chose 18 electors to represent them in the Electoral College via a popular vote pitting incumbent Democratic President William J. Rutherford and his running mate, Vice-President Carlotta A. Sanchez, against Republican challenger and South Dakota Governor Thomas P. Leach and his running mate, Congressman Marty Daniels. President Rutherford easily won his home state over Governor Leach, capturing 73.25% of the vote, versus 26.75% for Leach, a margin of 46.50%.
