  • The term "Mapping", used as a substituting word for alternate future, is based off of the fanbase of alternative future. It comprised of maps of Europe, which lead to a person, called TheJarJar99, to create the term Mapping. It was later popularized and made official by 99batran whom coined the term for the fanbase called "Mappers". And later officially used by MervueMeringue.

  • To open your Automap, press the associated icon in the bottom interface or simply hit the Tab key. The map appears in the lower right-hand corner of the screen. If you use the button interface, the Automap toggles on or off. If you use the Tab key, the map cycles between lower right, an expanded view of the map in the same location, and off. Image:Atlas.jpg
  • There are various maps created by Gas Powered Games, as well as the mapping community. The official map editor was released on June 11, 2007, it can be downloaded through GPGNet's "Vault". Before the official editor was available, HazardX had reverse-engineered the map file format and created unofficial tools to create new maps. Internally, a map consists of the following:

And the map will be saved as a otbm. file and the spawn, housestore and mapstore will be saved as a xml. file. All maps got their own style, the most used styles are: * RPG, this is most of the time a low exp server. * War map, here are players fighting eachother . * Realistic (often hags with RPG), a map which is very realistic, and could even be real. * Un realistic, most likely, this map is not possible to be real, but can still be fun to play.

Before the official editor was available, HazardX had reverse-engineered the map file format and created unofficial tools to create new maps. Internally, a map consists of the following: 1. * A heightmap that describes the altitude of each part of the map (e.g. hills, cliffs, flat land, etc..) 2. * Several texturemaps that describe the looks (sand, grass, stone) of each part of the map 3. * Scenario data, which describes human and ai players and their prebuilt units 4. * Game elements, like mass extraction points, waypoint markers, etc... 5. * Additional information like water styles, background images, lighting, ... 6. * A preview image of the final map. 7. * (Optionally: script files to add or modify game behaviour) Creating a new map is easy, but you will need to take some time to read and understand the tutorials. After that, it's basically your creativity that helps you make interesting maps - and the amount of time you're willing to put into this task. You do not need to be a programmer or graphical artist to make maps.

Adventuring across great distances takes planning, and a really big map! To access the Map Atlas of Uld, press the associated icon in the bottom interface or simply hit the M key. On the Atlas are any of the areas that you have maps for or have been pointed out for you by NPCs. To travel to a location in Uld, simply click on the desired destination in the Atlas. Image:Atlas.jpg If you buy or find a map to a specific location, it will go into your inventory. To add the location to your Atlas, right-click on the map piece and it will be inscribed. Your Atlas can only hold so many locations, though, so high-level characters may need to decide what locations they don’t want anymore.
