Duke Mahad dal Freid rules the Duchy of Freid, an allied country of Asturia. He is husband to the deceased Princess Marlene, and father to his son, Prince Chid. Hints throughout the series indicate he is aware that Allen is his son's biological father, however, his love for Marlene and Chid himself seems enough to overcome any misgivings over this, and he names Prince Chid his heir. He's eventually killed during the series. One of the last visions Hitomi sees is of him and Marlene happily reunited.
