He played for the junior Edmonton Oil Kings from 1962 to 1966, winning the Memorial Cup in 1963 and 1966. The Oil Kings were a Detroit Red Wings' farm team, so Falkenberg turned pro with the Wings. He only played 54 games with the NHL team over six seasons, playing mostly in the minor pros. The establishment of the World Hockey Association (WHA) in 1972 gave him his big chance, and he played for the Edmonton Oilers for two seasons. Falkenberg then played three seasons for the San Diego Mariners from 1974 to 1977. When that team folded, he joined the Oilers for one more season and retired in 1978.
