Leslie François Manigat (b. August 1930) was the first democratically elected president of Haiti (1988). According to the Provisional Electoral Council (Conseil Electoral Provisoire, or CEP) he won the presidential elections of January 17, 1988 with 50.29% of the votes, defeating ten other candidates. He was inaugurated on February 7, 1988, but was overthrown by Gen. Henri Namphy on June 20, after only a few months in office.
