During his childhood, Shototsu never knew of what his father did or who he served only that he was of Samurai Origin and that his mother had died during a raid upon their village by the enemy of his father, all he had for family was his twin brother Sanosuke Yuuen who was born on the same day as Shototsu, the boys did share similar appearances yet difference among themselves making it easy to tell which was which especially since Shototsu was the only one born with the orange eyes. During their early lives they learned the way of Bushido through swordsmanship and the code of honor from an old man who raised both of them that they called "Sama" who was in fact a former Samurai back in his youth, during their time with "Sama" they became well associated with weapons and armor learning many styles, however Shototsu was the only one to show any true talent in the art of wielding two swords.
