Usagi Yoshihiko was a samurai of the Hare Clan. He moved to Ichinoru Mura, a supposedly cursed town in the Naishou Province. The village suffered under great and enduring misfortune and its inhabitants seemed unable to leave. Any visitor were asked to leave before night, as sleeping in the village for even one night was enough to trigger the curse. Yoshihiko searched for the village and willingly stayed despite the curse, which he believed was inflicted by a maho-tsukai. Much of Yoshihiko's work consisted of interviewing villagers, particularly the oldest among them, trying to piece together the truth.
