Kathleen Gilfords is a bartender and waitress in a town tavern, very fond of country music and male company. In 1988 James "Sonny" Crockett, out on a mandated furlough, stopped in for a drink and met Kathleen, and the two began talking about their respective lives and how things were when they were younger, when the escaped convicts Cruz and Wilson stopped in town, and took Kathleen hostage. Crockett immediately took off in pursuit, being stopped twice before finding the cabin where they were hiding. Cruz continually made unwanted advances toward Kathleen, each time being stopped by Scotty McKenna until Cruz threatened Scotty.
