The USS Caledonia (NCC-31916) was a Miranda-class Federation starship in service during the mid and late 24th century. In 2355, as a third year cadet at Starfleet Academy, James Farrell spent his mandatory three-month field training cruise aboard the Caledonia. During his time there the ship was assigned to a routine patrol route between Vulcan and Tellar. It was his first time aboard a starship, and he would later describe the experience as being "like watching paint dry." (Star Trek: The Nomad Frontier: "Archangel")
