Polydektes was the king of Seriphos. Polydectes desired to marry Danae and become Perseus' father. Perseus, having no gold or treasures to give as a wedding gift, promised to bring the head of Medusa, one of the gorgons. Perseus returned with the head. Polydektes not believing that such a task could be done was skeptical of what was in Perseis' sack and upon looking at the head Polydectes was turned to stone. The story of Polydektes was told in The StoryTeller: Greek Myths' story of "Perseus and the Gorgon".
