Elliott quickly earned respect, emerging with a solid 15th place finish. He was even more impressive at Langhorne, emerging out of the large field with a 12th place finish. Elliott did not return to the sport until 1954, but the driver returned quite triumphantly. Competing in three starts that year, Elliott earned three top-tens and finished 62nd in points. All of his starts came on the Southeast tracks, starting the year off 10th at Palm Beach and tacking on a pair of 8ths at Jacksonville and Savannah. Elliott's next start came during the 1957 season, when he competed at Langhorne. Again, Elliott was quite impressive, starting 41st in the deep field but completing all but nineteen laps in the race to finish 9th. Ironically, Elliott's last race - a 1958 event at Reading - turned out to be his worst. Starting 6th in the field of thirty, Elliott only lasted forty laps before overheating woes left him 27th.
