  • Interregnum is the 22nd chapter of Inheritance. It takes the point of view of Roran.
  • The Interregnum is the period between the death of the old Queen of the Old Kingdom and the coronation of King Torrigan, during which time the Kingdom was ruled by various regents but gradually began to fall into disrepair and lawlessness.
  • The five eras of Changeling history can be divided into the Mythic Age, the Sundering, the Shattering, the Interregnum, and the Resurgence. The period of no sidhe nor True Fae on Earth, with the remaining 'watered down' changelings having to fend for themselves after the final death-throes of the Shattering around 1500-1600 AD is the Interregnum, as changelings had to try to work out how to survive on their own. A very rare few still had occasional access to the Dreaming, but Arcadia was either completely detached from the Mundane World or perhaps as some rumoured, had been destroyed. The sidhe and True Fae in Arcadia also didn't know if the Mundane World had survived the Shattering, some believing that its time had ground to a halt.
  • An interregnum (plural interregna or interregnums) is a period of discontinuity of a government, organization, or social order. Archetypally, it was the period of time between the reign of one monarch and the next (coming from Latin inter-, "between" + rēgnum, "reign" [from rex, rēgis, "king"]), and the concepts of interregnum and regency therefore overlap. An interregnum can simplistically be thought of as a "gap", although the idea of an interregnum emphasizes the relationship to what comes before and to what comes after in a sequence. This contrasts with a near synonym like gap, which may be random, encompassing neither connotation of interjacency in a sequence nor formal interrelation.
  • The period of time with no Emperor or Empire, between Adron's Disaster and the restoration of the Empire by Zerika the Fourth. It lasted about 250 years (497 years by Verra's reckoning). The Empire stopped in the reign of a Phoenix, and was restored by another Phoenix. It is marked by the loss of the Imperial Orb which made the use of Sorcery impossible for all but the most powerful wizards. These breakdowns were responsible for large amounts of famine, plagues, an increase in crime, and other major problems within Dragaera. This article is a stub. Examples of interregna are periods between monarchs, between popes, between emperors of the Holy Roman Empire, between kings in an elective monarchy, or between consuls of the Roman Republic. The term can also refer to the period between the pastorates of ministers in some Protestant churches. In Roman law, interregnum was usually accompanied by the proclamation of justitium (or state of exception, as did Giorgio Agamben demonstrate in his eponymic book - 2005). This is not surprising, as when a sovereign died - or when the Pope died - tumultus (upheavals) usually accompanied the news of a sovereign's death. Progressively, justitium came to signify the public mourning of the sovereign, and not anymore justitium, auctoritas being (mythically) attached to the physical body of the sovereign.

The Empire stopped in the reign of a Phoenix, and was restored by another Phoenix. It is marked by the loss of the Imperial Orb which made the use of Sorcery impossible for all but the most powerful wizards. During this period, there was a total breakdown in the normal structure or Dragaeran society, which dramatically affected trade, military engagements, medicine, art, farming, and every other important aspect of Dragaeran life. These breakdowns were responsible for large amounts of famine, plagues, an increase in crime, and other major problems within Dragaera. The loss of the orb also allowed armies from the Eastern Kingdoms to invade portions of the Empire. After the end of the Interregnum, these lands were reclaimed. The nullification of sorcery also had effects on Dragaeran geography. All of the existing floating castles came crashing down as the spells that held them in place suddenly stopped functioning. Kieron's Watch, a historic rise that jutted into the sea near Adrilankha suffered a similar fate. This article is a stub. You can help the Lyorn Records by adding to it.
