He shared a Daytime Emmy with his fellow scribes for that season. Years earlier, with Larry Gelbart, he had co-written the unsold 1962 pilot Mad Mad World which featured Jim Henson's Muppets, and spent a stint in 1963 writing for The Jimmy Dean Show.

  • Gary Belkin (1927-2005) was an Emmy Award-winning TV comedy and variety show writer who was part of the Sesame Street writing staff for Season 15. He shared a Daytime Emmy with his fellow scribes for that season. Years earlier, with Larry Gelbart, he had co-written the unsold 1962 pilot Mad Mad World which featured Jim Henson's Muppets, and spent a stint in 1963 writing for The Jimmy Dean Show. Belkin began his TV career in the 1950s, working on Caesar's Hour and went on to write for the sitcoms Car 54, Where Are You? and Get Smart and sketch or variety shows like The Danny Kaye Show and The Carol Burnett Show (for which he won two Emmys). He also scripted specials like 1972 comic strip-themed Funny Papers (with Raquel Welch and Northern Calloway), the Anne Bancroft special Annie, the Women in the Life of a Man (netting another Emmy), and the PBS health production VD Blues (hosted by Dick Cavett)
