Alexander Benjamin Droughns (8 January 1927 - 15 May 2012) was a retired American politician who served as the Vice President of the United States in the Dawley administration from 1973-1977, and previously was the junior Senator from Tennessee from 1967-1972 and a US Congressman from Tennessee from 1963-67. Long-considered one of the National Party's most prominent politicians, he was suggested as a potential Presidential candidate in the 1980, 1988 and 1996 Presidential elections, but never ran for national office again following the end of his Vice Presidency. Droughns was one of the most popular Vice Presidents in history and is regarded as one of the men who redefined the nature and importance of the office, along with Robert Redford and Bill Parcells.
