As a teenager Hock spent too much time playing video games and was extremely overweight. After watching a video of Mike Tyson he decided to join the Juggernaut Fight Club and take up martial arts, at the time he weighed 95 kg. He took gold at the Singapore National Boxing Championships in 2010 and again in 2011, plus the gold in the Invitational Boxing Championship the same year after dropping a weight class. In 2012 he decided to make a foray into wrestling competition at the Singapore National wrestling trials. He ended up winning bronze in his division and was selected for the national team.
