- Peel listened to The Goon Show (most episodes of which were written by Milligan) during his National Service, enjoyed it and shared the enthusiasm for the anarchic style of comedy which made the show such a success with the listening public in the 1950s. Peel did play some of the group's comedy singles, especially on his 30 July 1969 show, where he played their Ying Tong Song. However, in Margrave of the Marshes (pp. 130-131) he admitted that he was not a member of the Goons' cult following, which has survived to the present day. - Goons (also known as Common Gnorcs and Basic Gnorcs) are small, green, weak Gnorcs that were duplicated and transformed into gems. They commonly wear beanie-style hats, which indicate that they work for Gnasty Gnorc. They are the most common form of Gnorc, even though they are slightly altered for different regions to better fight Spyro.
- The Goons were created by E. C. Segar in 1933 for his Thimble Theatre storyline "Plunder Island". Since their debut, Popeye's meeting with the Goons has been adapted into animation several times throughout the decades by the likes of Fleischer Studios, the 1960s Popeye the Sailor and The All-New Popeye Hour, often involving the rescue of Poopdeck Pappy.
